Embarassingly, I hadn't known about buyblue.org until Alex Ross told me about it, but now that I'm up to speed, I have to ask y'all: Have you checked out the site's Blue Christmas 2005 list? It's nice to know how to vote intelligently with your wallet--I'll just ignore that a well-meaning, responsible list of gift sellers isn't referred to as a "Holiday" list in this Chrisma-Chana-Kwanzakkah world--but I do think the list is interesting for another few reasons. Take the question of why red-seeming XM is the list's preferred satellite radio company? Isn't Sirius, with its far more blue-flavored programming, Mel Karmazin-steered administriation and Howard Sternified free-speech politics enough to warrant a look at another network? Or is all that blue behavior a facade? Here's the answer (for now). And what of the fact that nearly all Yankee Candle-lighting, Southern Comfort-drinking right-wingers I know swathe themselves in threads spun by Ralph Lauren and Christian Dior? If only they knew...And how about Michael Jordan-endorsed Nike's new political balance? Think Tiger, Kobe, and skater extraordinaire Paul Rodriguez care who's writing their checks? Happy "winter festival" shopping!
